The Defense Department on Tuesday announced that a sailor based in Africa died over the weekend.
Petty Officer Matthew I. Holzemer, died June 17, 2018, at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, due to a “non-combat related incident,” the Pentagon said in a release.
Holzemer, who originally hailed from Tennessee, was deployed to Djibouti in support of Special Operations Command Forward - East Africa, according to the release.
More details, including the cause of death, were not immediately available from Pentagon or Navy officials.
The death is under investigation.
