Trump signed a proclamation Wednesday designating May 8, 2025, as a “day in celebration of Victory Day for World War II.” It is not a federal holiday.
The decision came after the service lost confidence in the commander's ability to lead, according to the Marine Corps.
Cmdr. Christopher Johnson was relieved of his duties "due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command," the Navy said.
