MH-60R Seahawk helicopters assigned to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 49 conducted aerial damage assessments and air-dropped supplies to the local population.
The vessel leaves Wednesday from Miami, with stops planned for Colombia, Haiti, Jamaica, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and other countries.
Venezuela’s humanitarian crisis – which began in late 2014, when a drop in oil prices deprived the government of its primary income source – has worsened to previously unimaginable levels. People are now dying from shortages of food and medicine.
