The aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower has been operating in the Middle Eastern waters of U.S. Central Command since November.
Five special operations aviation soldiers died in the Nov. 10 mishap, when the helicopter crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.
The carrier and its armada left the East Coast in May.
The crew was conducting a “routine air refueling mission” during a training sortie when their aircraft suffered a mishap, the military said Sunday.
