Thanksgiving is edging closer and with it, fall advancement season.

Nearly Over 215,000 sailors are expected to have some good news to share about earning their next stripe this fall. The service is set to release its quotas for E-4, E-5 and E-6 this on Thursday, and the complete list of all selectees in the days before Thanksgiving.

Advancement rates are expected to hover above or near the 10-year averages, with one caveat. This is the first year under the new no-test advancement system, renamed the Meritorious Advancement Program, where thousands of sailors were hand-picked by their skippers. The number of spot-promoted sailors were then factored into the fall advancement quotas, in some cases reducing the number of slots. For instance, if commands choose 5 sailors for ET1 and there were going to be 40 quotas, the test advancement quotas will be reduced to 35.

Navy Times will publish the quotas online Thursday for all active-duty, selected reserve and Full Time Support sailors, so check back then.
