A Virginia-based sailor was arrested this week for fatally shooting his wife, a former sailor, during a domestic dispute, according to police and Navy officials.

Aviation Support Equipment Technician 3rd Class Christian A. Neal, 22, was detained Monday in connection to Sunday’s incident, which took place at his residence on Goldsboro Drive in Hampton, Virginia.

Neal and Amber Greenidge, 23, got into a verbal argument that turned physical, according to a Hampton police statement.

Police were called to the residence at about 4 p.m. Sunday and found Neal bleeding from a stab wound and Greenidge shot, according to authorities.

She died at the scene, police said.

According to an arrest warrant first revealed by the Daily Press newspaper, Greenidge slashed Neal’s chest with a two-inch pocket knife, “causing a superficial wound.”

Neal then grabbed a gun out of a dresser and shot Greenidge once in the face, according to the warrant.

Neal was initially transported to the hospital before being taken into custody on Monday.

He’s being held without bond and faces charges of manslaughter and discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling, according to the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office.

A Washington, D.C., native, Neal pinned on his third class rating in July.

He had been assigned to the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower since 2016, according to Naval Air Force Atlantic spokesman Cmdr. Dave Hecht.

“We are saddened by this incident and extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the victim,” Hecht said.
