The sea service continues to test the possibilities of placing mobile missile cells aboard littoral combat ships. Decommissioning these ships early amounts to a loss of almost $7 billion based on analysis by Defense News. South Korean investigators this week raided the homes of five civilian accomplices and 17 U.S. troops based at Camp Humphreys and Camp Casey. The ship, which was designed to serve for 25 years, is one of the Freedom-class variants that the Navy is mothballing early. The littoral combat ship Sioux City cost $460 million and was retired after less than five years of service. Multiple sailors have suffered fentanyl-related deaths at the base housing the Navy's boot camp, and at least two sailors now face criminal charges. The ship was commissioned in November 2018. Five service members were treated by emergency services for complications arising from the use of Blue Lotus. The ship's blue and gold crews took turns manning the ship during the lengthy cruise. The littoral combat ship was was delivered to the Navy in September and is based in Mayport, Florida. Load More
