The prototype aims to strengthen flight training for student pilots while reducing the time it takes by combining traditional classroom instruction and flying time in the T-6B Texan II with virtual and mixed-reality trainers, artificial intelligence, tablets and aviation apps.
Sailors selected for the program will keep their current paygrade while collecting a paycheck and attending undergraduate courses full-time, along with receiving a $10,000 annual tuition stipend.
