PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Rhode Island has a new leader.
Rear Adm. Michael E. Jabaley relieved Rear Adm. David M. Duryea as the center’s commander in a ceremony Friday.
The center has divisions in Newport and Keyport, Washington, to engineer, build and support Navy ships and combat systems.
Jabaley takes on the role in addition to his current assignment as deputy commander for undersea warfare at the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C. He will lead research, development, test and evaluation efforts and oversee the engineering and other services the center provides.
Jabaley has served on several submarines and commanded the attack submarine Louisville.
Duryea has led the warfare center since September 2013. He is retiring after a 31-year career.
