NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A former Navy reservist has been sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years for raping a Norfolk woman during a home burglary.
The Virginian-Pilot(http://bit.ly/1DsI5bA) reports 25-year-old Amin Jason Carl Garcia was sentenced Friday in Norfolk Circuit Court.
Prosecutors say Garcia broke into the home twice in 2008. The woman was tied up with an electrical cord and raped during the first break-in. Her daughter was sexually assaulted during a second burglary a month later. Prosecutors pursued the charges against Garcia involving the mother first.
Garcia claimed he was having a sexual relationship with the mother, but when that fell apart he started a relationship with her 15-year-old daughter.
Garcia is awaiting a federal trial on charges he sexually assaulted an Army captain in 2010 in Kuwait.
