Coast Guard will help release sea turtle hatchlings

BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Coast Guard is going to help over 580 sea turtle hatchlings make their way into the Atlantic Ocean.

Coast Guard crews from Fort Lauderdale on Monday will ferry marine scientists and volunteers from the Gumbo-Limbo Nature Center well offshore to release the hatchlings.

The hatchlings come from turtle nests on beaches statewide. Most of the hatchlings are baby loggerhead sea turtles.

The group of turtles being released into the waters off Boca Raton also includes a handful of young sea turtles that have been rehabilitated at the nature center.
