CORONADO, Calif. — A bomb threat investigation forced a lengthy closure of the main gate at Naval Air Station North Island at Coronado on San Diego Bay.

Capt. Scott Mulvehill says someone drove up to the gate around 5 a.m. Thursday and stated that there may be a bomb in the trunk.

Mulvehill says the person was detained but the trunk lock is jammed so investigators were having a robot go through the back seat to look into the trunk.

Mulvehill will not release any information about the person who was detained, other than that there was no explosive residue on the person.

He says the Navy has no reason to believe the incident has any link to terrorism.

The gate closure caused a morning traffic jam. The gate reopened just before noon.
