A 20-year-old man who was fatally shot on Nov. 4 in Norfolk, Virginia, has been identified as a sailor from the carrier Gerald R. Ford, Navy officials confirmed.

Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Airman James Nakia Henderson Jr. was killed during an exchange of gunfire at about 3 a.m. that left two other men wounded.

Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene, WTKR reports, and the others were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Norfolk police filed charges against a sailor from the carrier Eisenhower, Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Donald Bowman, 26. He faces charges of second-degree murder, malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for his alleged role in the altercation, according to the report.

Bowman was taken into custody immediately after being treated for a gunshot wound.

Henderson, a native of Chicago, enlisted in the Navy in December 2015. He reported to the carrier Ford in April 2016.

“We are saddened by the sailor’s passing and extended the sailor’s family and friends our deepest condolences,” Navy officials said.

The Norfolk Police Department is investigating the shooting, Navy officials said. Police have not disclosed a motive in the shooting, according to the local news report.

Bowman is currently being held at the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
