A junior sailor used cocaine and Xanax on board the aircraft carrier Nimitz and smoked pot out in town, Navy officials confirmed this week.

Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Aircraft Handling) Airman Recruit Daniel A. Holguin pleaded guilty in a "pretrial agreement to all charges and specifications” at a Feb. 26 special court-martial in Bremerton, Washington, according to ship spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Clinton Phillips.

“The military judge sentenced him to 85 days confinement and a Bad Conduct Discharge,” Phillips said in an email message to Navy Times.

Holguin could not be independently reached.

Phillips referred requests for comment from his military attorney to Defense Service Office West, which did not return calls and emails this week.

Holguin was charged with “wrongfully” using cocaine on board the Nimitz on several occasions in September and October, charge sheets state.

Those filings also indicate that he conspired with another sailor — whose name is redacted in the paperwork provided to Navy Times — to “wrongfully introduce cocaine on board USS Nimitz.”

But the flattop wasn’t at sea. The carrier began 15 months of maintenance last March at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

Phillips said he could not confirm Holguin’s duties at the time but said sailors worked on board the carrier during its dry dock session.

The junior sailor also drew charges for using cocaine inside Naval Base Kitsap in August 2018 and September 2018, according to charge sheets.

Holguin was charged with using Xanax on board the Nimitz in September.

The pill is prescribed to treat anxiety but its sedative effect makes it a popular recreational drug.

Holguin also was charged with abusing marijuana in Bremerton between August and September.
