Five special operations aviation soldiers died in the Nov. 10 mishap, when the helicopter crashed into the Mediterranean Sea. American and Japanese crews continue to search for two people who are still missing. The cause of the crash and the conditions of seven other troops who were aboard the tiltrotor aircraft remain unknown. A Coast Guard spokesperson says all four crew members were taken to Seattle for treatment following the crash. Russian President Vladimir Putin made the comment Thursday, but there was no way to independently verify the statement. The first- and second-place winning pilots likely crashed at the National Air Race Championships, possibly because of a blind spot, glare or loss of focus.
