Defense Secretary Mark Esper has opened the door for athletes at the nation’s military academies to play professional sports after they graduate, and delay their active-duty service.
About 300 wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans from all five services are competing in 14 sports and they are joined by military athletes from the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and Denmark.
“They’re out there saving lives every single day. They’ve done this their whole lives, and it’s their time to retire and our time to give back to them.”
