KEMAH, Texas — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter that hit a bird has made a safe emergency landing in a Houston-area parking lot.
Maintenance crews on Friday planned to examine the aircraft at the shopping center lot in Kemah (KEE’-muh),
The pilots on Thursday night landed as a precaution after the chopper suffered apparent minor damage in the bird strike. Authorities say the four people on board were not hurt.
Coast Guard officials say the helicopter was making a check on an unmanned platform in the Gulf of Mexico when it hit the bird.
