MONTPELIER, Vt. — A new report shows that Vermont National Guard members reported eight incidents of sexual assault last year.

In only one case is a National Guard member accused. Half the incidents occurred last year and half in previous years.

The Guard is required by law to provide a yearly report on sex assault, gender discrimination and discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Guard officials discussed the report with joint meeting of two legislative committees on Friday.

Two of the cases warranted a military investigation and one a civilian criminal investigation.

Adjutant Gen. Steven Cray says sexual assault, sexual harassment and discrimination of any kind have no place in the Vermont National Guard.
