A Naval Academy midshipman was found dead Oct. 30 at a clay target shooting facility in Maryland, Academy officials have confirmed.

The circumstances surrounding Midshipman First Class (senior) Juan “Jimmy” Jimenez’s death are under investigation, according to officials.

He was found at the Prince George’s County Trap and Skeet Center at about 1 p.m.

The 22-year-old, of Latham, New York, was a member of 8th Company.

He was a general engineering major and participated in intramural sports at the Academy, officials said.

Jimenez attended the Naval Academy Preparatory School for a year before arriving at the Academy, school spokeswoman Jenny Erickson said.

“The Midshipman Development Center, Chaplain’s Center and Chain of Command are providing grief counseling and support services to midshipmen, faculty and staff,” she said in an email.
